Certified installers: 0
Pending MCS certification
We won't show you a directory of installers who can't claim the grant.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant for air-to-air heat pumps has applied in England and Wales since 28 April 2026, but the grant can only be claimed by an MCS-certified installer.
Until certified installers exist, nobody can apply for the £2,500 on your behalf. Anyone offering the grant for an air-to-air system today should be able to show you their MCS certificate covering air-to-air heat pumps.
General notes
What the grant needs, summarised from Ofgem and GOV.UK. Your installer confirms the rest.
- 1.The property is in England or Wales.
- 2.For air-to-air heat pumps, the property is residential (non-residential buildings are excluded for this technology).
- 3.You own the property: owner-occupiers, private landlords and second-home owners can all apply through an installer.
- 4.The heat pump replaces fossil fuel or electric heating, such as gas, oil, LPG or electric heaters. It cannot replace an existing low-carbon system.
- 5.The property is not social housing, and most new builds are excluded (qualifying self-builds can apply).
- 6.The property has not already had government funding for the same technology.
- 7.An MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf, and you confirm the application with Ofgem within 14 days.

You never apply to Ofgem yourself. Your installer does.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is installer-led. That is why certification matters so much, and why nobody can claim the air-to-air grant until installers are certified.
1.You ask a certified installer for a quote
They survey your home and design a system to heat it. The £2,500 comes off the price they quote you. This is the step nobody can take yet, because no installer is certified for air-to-air.
- You to MCS installer
2.Your installer applies for the grant
You do not apply to Ofgem yourself. The installer submits the Boiler Upgrade Scheme application on your behalf.
- MCS installer to Ofgem
3.You confirm with Ofgem within 14 days
Ofgem contacts you to check you agree to the application. If you do not confirm within 14 calendar days, it may be rejected.
- Ofgem to You
- You to Ofgem
4.The installer fits it and claims the £2,500
Ofgem issues a voucher. Your installer fits and commissions the system, redeems the voucher, and you pay the balance.

Three things the adverts get wrong
Air-to-air heat pumps are often sold as air conditioning. The grant sees them differently. Open each correction for the detail and its source.
Compare certified installers, once there are some to compare.
When MCS starts certifying air-to-air installers, this is where you will compare them by postcode, each checked against the MCS register. Until then it stays empty on purpose, drawn dashed like any proposed work.
Short on time? Just leave your postcode.
Apart from a confirmation, we'll email you only when MCS-certified air-to-air installers can claim the £2,500 for homes near you.
